When setting up a new online store, you may want to consider if you want to use simple or variable products. This article explains the differences between the two.

Simple Products

These are the more straightforward of the two. If you are not planning on having different sizes, colours, etc. then this will be the product type to use.

Advantages of using simple products

If you are undecided, or just not sure yet, you can start with a simple product and add variations later, if needed. This keeps things simple.

Variable Products

These products have variations on the product, giving the shop visitor a choice. An example would be if you were to sell clothes in different sizes. The size (small, medium, large, etc.) would be a variation. It is possible to have multiple variations such as colour, size, and texture. The visitor to your shop would then be able to select a medium sized shirt in red with a rough feel.

Advantages of using variable products

Using variable products allows you to set up your variations from the start, and offer your client a wider variety of products to choose from.
